of the 41st president of the united states, george herbert walker bush. but, first, locally, we re going to take a live look outside from our sutro tower camera. scattered showers across the area. the camera lens is wet there. thanks for joining us. i m kristen zse. meteorologist mike nicco has been tracking this. a look at what we re going to deal with. for today we ve got a one on the storm impact scale with light to moderate showers. not a steady rain, but if you get over a couple of these, the rainfall could add up to .2 of an inch. it will taper this evening. here s a look 24 hours ago of the storm on the left side of your screen. look how farther south and east it is, and that s why we ll see a tapering of the showers as this continues to head south and east away from us. you can still see yellows and greens and the showers are out there. as we head into the evening commute, you can see it s definitely tapering, even a little sunshine breaking through the clouds. but
last night. both support the roof and the bus deck level above fremont street. melanie woodrow is live in the sales force transit center now with the latest. melanie? reporter: fremont street where i m standing and the transit center will be closed until at least the end of next week. and for good reason. that s because the damage is above fremont street. the main crack approximately two feet, six inches. and another smaller crack on an edadjacent beam. this is the cracked steel beam workers discovered at 10:00 a.m. yesterday. the beam is basically supports the roof, the bus deck, and spans fremont street. it s holding up the bridge over fremont street. reporter: which is why they decided to close fremont street and the transit center. we will not open until we re 100% the issue is rectified, is corrected, and the building is safe. reporter: during their investigation last night, workers found a second crack. the adjacent beam to the beam in question also suffered
evacuees showing up at hotels only to find there are no more rooms. if this hotel would just give us a room. i think they have convention people coming in with reservations. reporter: and people preying on abandoned homes and businesses. one shop homer asking for help, showing looters going unpunished. this is houston s main evacuation center. there are already thousands of people here. we know that they set up 2,000 cots earlier in the day, and those quickly ran out. and still, people just continue to come as the rain will continue to fall. reporting from houston, abc 7 news. now, the historic flooding in texas is causing massive flight delays, of course, cancellations all across the country. matt keller has a story from mineta san jose airport. reporter: today was supposed to be a celebration at mineta san jose international airport. southwest airlines was expanding service. but as fate would have it, one of the new nonstop destinations is houston s hobby airport.
