Taking refuge in the parking lot of gaza city s main hospital. as doctors and nurses fill thing more the morgue with dozens of victims, many of them children. joining me for reports from both sides of this crisis, richard engel live in gaza and nbc s martin fletcher in tel aviv. richard, first to you, we saw the situation over the weekend in the hospital and the tears from the doctors and emergency relief workers. tell us what more what more today. i just got back from the hospital a short while ago. as you mentioned, another hospital outside of gaza city was hit and four people were killed in that attack. so many of the patients who were in that hospital have been brought to the main hospital here in gaza city. and the hospital is appears overwhelmed. we went to one of the wards, an emergency ward and we saw a lot of children.
Harrowing for emergency workers who have been on the job now since the early hours of the morning. and is it clear that emergency workers have been able to get to those areas that are most devastated? we were talking with a gentleman earlier who was talking about sort of the geography of chile which is a long and narrow country, with a road system that really has very few main arteries that allow rescue workers and the kind of emergency relief workers to get down south with all the destruction that s been done. we ve seen bridges and highways that have been destroyed. uh-huh. that s right. there are major highways and if a major highway goes out n some cases it s difficult to get to another city, which is why they ve cut public transit between cities, buss and trains have been stopped and so forth. people have been asked to sit tight until they can really get a handle on the infrastructure damage, particularly connecting
