Now to a story that is sure to get the attention of those who like to fly drones as a hobby. wednesday afternoon a drone flew right in the path of an emergency helicopter 1,000 feet above the ground in fresno, california. the faa says the number of these incidents have dramatically increased in the last year and it wants to send out a clear message. operating drones around airplanes and helicopters is dangerous and illegal. nbc s willie geist has the story. reporter: according to the newly released faa report there have been 650 drone sightings be i pilots as of august 9th of this year. compared to a total of 238 sightings in all of 2014. this summer alone, there have been 138 sightings in june and 137 in july. the majority of the drones that are causing the problems
To agree with commissioners and others and the recommendations that law enforcement has put out in philadelphia. i mean they can get hurt on the site too. there s all sorts of toxic chemicals and elements. they could be you know, impeding the progress and so if these are all emergency responders it certainly looks like they re going through each and every train car there and that s terribly important, particularly to stabilize the injured as they get them out and, you know, literally, to help direct everything else in the area. so that does look like a goodly number of people but i would expect to see, you know, sort of emergency vehicles there also to take eem away and maybe an emergency helicopter. but it s impossible to see in the dark if this is even a place where this could land. i don t know what the wires are around there, if they could safely get them in or out. so with that number of people there, we can just assume they have covered every car and are busy getting people out.
Get up there, but the whole area, all mountain roads, shut down, and we imagine that s going to be a while. right now we re actually heading south on the 210 to colton to arrowhead regional medical center because of reports the two officers that were reportedly down are at that hospital. so we will head to the hospital and try to get in contact with someone at the hospital and see what the latest is and what the conditions are of those two officers and it may have been the police activity we saw going south on the 210 was toward the hospital to check on the condition. will was saying last time we checked in with him that they were actually trying to establish an area for the emergency helicopter to come in and grab those deputies. are you hearing now from your sources that the deputies are already in the hospital potentially receiving treatment? yeah. that s what we re hearing is that they were taken to arrowhead region medical center in colton, but no word on their
