Newcastle United are set to sign Republic of Ireland Under-19 goalkeeper Reece Byrne to their academy squad.
The 18-year-old joins from Dublin-based club Bohemians, and announced the deal on social media alongside a picture of him signing his contract.
Writing on Instagram, Byrne said it was a “proud day for me and my family to sign for such a big club like Newcastle, onwards and upwards from here”.
Newcastle have not officially confirmed the deal, but the goalkeeper is expected to become the first signing of the summer.
Byrne has made one senior appearance for Bohemians, and started for.
