More Ky. hospitals got As on safety-grade report; most still get Cs

Whitesburg ARH Hospital, which got a C, shows detail for infection issues and tabs for other issues. More Kentucky hospitals than the last time got a grade of A on a nonprofit group s rating of patient safety in hospitals, but for the fifth grading period in a row, most of the 45 Kentucky hospitals got Cs.     The Leapfrog Group, based in Washington, D.C., rates more than 2,600 hospitals. Most of Kentucky s 126 hospitals were not rated, but those that are have a majority of the hospital beds in the state.   The group does not grade small hospitals with critical access status because they don t have to report quality measures to the federal government, nor does it grade specialty hospitals, government hospitals, or hospitals for which there aren t enough publicly reported data.

Local doctor encourages community to prepare for COVID-19 vaccine

This week, individuals across the state celebrated the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations to hospitals across the commonwealth. As the vaccine is made available, local healthcare providers such as Dr. John Jones, of the Primary Care Centers of Eastern Kentucky, are encouraging the community to follow guidelines and to prepare to get the vaccine once it is available. In total, the state expects at least 38,000 Pfizer doses and 109,000 Moderna doses this month. Beshear said he expects more Pfizer allocations to be announced at a later date, possibly before the end of the month. Beshear said he expects Kentucky will receive approximately 38,000 Pfizer doses the week of Dec. 13-19; 76,000 Moderna doses the week of Dec. 20-26; and more than 33,000 Moderna doses from Dec. 27-31. These numbers are the state’s best estimate at this time based on available information from the federal government, and are subject to change.

(KFVS) - Governor Andy Beshear announced on Wednesday, December 16 that all 11 approved health facilities received their initial shipments of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines. “This is a very exciting time. With these life-saving vaccines being administered right now to our front-line workers, the beginning of the end of the coronavirus crisis is in sight,” the governor said. “We are also continuing to see fewer cases week over week, with today’s number down from last Wednesday. This is all great news, but it will take time before these modern medical miracles are available to everyone. Until then, we need everyone on Team Kentucky to be patient and vigilant. Continue to mask up, maintain social distance,
