a few. the committee has in their possession this draft executive order that politico published today, dated december 16, 2020, entitled presidential findings to conserve, collect and analyze information regarding the january 2020 election. before getting into it, having read this, if this draft had been issued and signs by the president back in that december, i think it would have very clearly signalled to the country and to the world, the united states was in the midst of an attempted coup. it would have created a moment of forced constitutional crisis, one we didn t ever quite get to until the day of january 6th. the order, contemplated and drafted would have seized voting machines used in the 2020 election, quote, effective immediately, the secretary of defense shall seize all machines, equipment, electronicsly stored information and material records, citing a federal law about retaining election records. the unsigned order also cites a
will go smoothily, you file electronicsly, make sure everything is okay. it s troubling for people in the backlog, the 2019 or 2020 return has been processed, it s going to be a hot mess for them, and already, i wrote a column for the washington post that there are lots of people getting the cp-80 notices where they sent in their tax return and money and the irs says listen, we cash your check but can t find your return and they are freaking out like wait a minute, you cash my money, where s my return? and so the irs has three days after starting the season said okay, we re going to stop those notices. and already, we re having a lot of issues with the tax season, so the best advice is once you get all of your paperwork in place, file as soon as you can, once you have everything, and file electronicsly, and have the money sent to your bank account. if you don t have to, don t send in a paper return.
to what do you attribute that misemphasis? partly we think we re sort of divided. we have reason over here and emotion over here, and we think if reason should conquer emotion, so we re not good at talking about emotion, so we misunderstand a lot of things that help us succeed, having the ability to attune to other people, having the ability to look over a complicated atmosphere and pick out the right patterns. these are things that don t correlate to iq very well. they re emotional and irrational abilities that we re not articulate about. one of the things the research is showing us is that you should be aware of teleconferences, because when we communicate electronicsly, we get some information, but mostç of our information is face-to-face, so being face-to-face in the room with co-workers and others is tremendously important. david, thanks for the time this afternoon. congratulations on the book. thank you. david brooks, the social
