republicans could not avert a lot of internal chaos. in fact, friday was a very, very bad day for house speaker mike johnson. not only is johnson facing a looming battle over his speakership, thanks to the motion to vacate filed by marjorie taylor greene, he is also dealing with a dwindling house majority, with wisconsin congressman mike gallagher announcing plans to leave congress next month. republicans will soon be able to lose just one vote, if all democrats put together on legislation. joining us now, mariana sotomayor, congressional reporter from the washington post. welcome. i have to ask you, is there more frustration in the republican caucus with marjorie taylor greene or speaker johnson? i would say, with marjorie taylor greene. it s something that i heard from even far right members of the house freedom caucus. they are not taking this too seriously, simply because, as many republicans pointed out, she is someone who seeks attention, so it will be interesting t

Me he needs to negotiate and people like mitt romney calling saying they ll stick with the house republican position and demand this negotiation. can the white house sustain that level of pressure? that is the key question around this. i think we see an increasing amount of that moderate slice of democrats trying to bring the white house to the negotiating table but that is not the party at large. they re trying to allow prooish president biden to maintain that position and as the default gets closer an the fear that democrats will be blamed for any type of financial economic downturn, that would put an increased set of pressure on the white house to come to the negotiating table. but i think when we look from the election side, where i sit, this all kind of adds up to the brinksmanship feeling that people feel about dysfunction in washington and that is part of the thing that biden said he would try to solve. exactly. there is a political pressure on him to make washington work

We had in the courtroom today were lawyers, and you know, they wanted to not be able to have the press not be able to see who the lawyers were because they could identify who they re representing. who the client was or the name they re discussing. yeah. but i don t think yeah, i think it sounds like a more lawyer to lawyer kind of conversation because there s no evidence of anybody big person coming. does this, in your mind, lead towards the president being caught up in at least one of these investigations at some point here when we talk about personal, professional all of them. presidential. it s like i mean, all of them. there s his fingerprints are on all of it. he s directing the, you know, the sex side of it. he s directing the election side of it. he s directing, you know, the family making money on the transition and the inauguration side of it. it s like, you can t be a rational human being at this stage and say, he had no idea of any of it. and i ll tell
