and why, later this hour. that s a federal official. plus, the colorado ruling. why it s a political gift to biden, not donald trump. and just in time to ruin the holiday, this. breaking news on fog. very good day to all of you from msnbc world headquarters in new york. welcome, everyone, to alex witt reports. we begin with this breaking news. just before the deadline overnight, donald trump s legal team filed a brief with a federal appeals court in washington asking it to toss out the d.c. election subversion case against him. saying he should be immune from prosecution for his actions while he was presidents. it comes a day after the supreme court declined to intervene and the case, leaving it to the lower court to decide first. meanwhile, on the question of immunity, president biden, now, has weighed in. mister president, do you think that our [inaudible] i can t think of one. joining me now, nbc s julie tsirkin in washington. julie, welcome. what did we hear from tr
sort of reminising about what he tried to do or planning something else. at the end of the video we showed, he talked about the way he hopes elections go in 2022 to put in place, essentially use his playbook. do you think this was planning or reminiscing? well, he talks about, you know, doing a lot of work in the states with state legislators and in a separate video we released today with the president of the claremont institute ryan williams he talks about eastman working with legislators on quote unquote election integrity stuff. you know, i very much see this as an on going attempt to subvert future elections. let me play that. you mentioned john eastman who is the president of the claremont institute. let s play that clip. yeah, i didn t mention it but he s still very involved with a
journal saying three people from the lab got sick at the same time before the pandemic was declared. looks fishy. when you put so much energy and effort into a dialogue, anywhere from the beginning, of course trump brought up the subject that it might have originated there, anybody with any common sense would have said hey, let s take a look at that especially from a place that the is not traps parent at all. but when you invest that much in it over time, very similar to, you know, kind of election integrity stuff. when you have any question you are called seditionist. it s the dc 2 step. what s interesting now is looks like information is cascading forth that s going to make them do the two step out here and cover their tracks and now all of a sudden be interested more in the issue. that s why senator holly and i came out with our bill to try to do this a month ago, knowing that sooner or later you had to get to the bottom of this.
