UN official Raouf Mazou said the body's refugee agency was planning for an exodus of 815,000 people including 580,000 Sudanese as well as foreign refugees now living in the country. The country's population numbers 46 million.
The Sudanese army said it worked with the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France on evacuation operations at Wadi Sedna, an air base north of Khartoum. Qatar and Jordan's operations were conducted overland to Port Sudan, the army said. Canada had also extracted its diplomats and was trying to support its local staff, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
