millions are thawing out this morning after celebrations around the country to welcome the new year. philadelphia hosted its annual fireworks show over the delaware river. people also crowded around baltimore s chilly inner harbor ring, rather to ring in 2015, but wendy gillette shows us the biggest celebration in times square where about a million people watched the ball drop. reporter: the glittering waterford crystal ball dropped over times square ushering in 2015 for the estimated 1 million people on hand to watch. they came from all over the world. where are you from? i m from stos kariya. reporter: most arrived to secure their viewing spots earlier in the morning. after going through security they were confined to massive pens where they couldn t leave even to use the bathroom. officers and bomb-sniffing dogs were on patrol to keep everyone safe. the temperature felt like it was in the teens and there was nowhere to get warm. i am freezing. i m from florida, b

is nbc nightly news with brian williams. good evening. i m kate snow in for brian on this new year s eve. it s been exactly four days since the tower lost contact with airasia flight 8501 and despite intense efforts with poor weather in the area search teams don t appear to be any closer to finding the bulk of the wreckage in that plane. indonesian rescuers have recovered several bodies and debris floating in shallow water. but for many an awful wait continues. we begin with nbc s katy tur in surabaya. reporter: as many in indonesia celebrated the start of the new year this small group prayed for their lost loved ones. after four days searchers have pulled seven bodies from the waters. among them four men and three women including a flight attendant still in her uniform. like everyone else we are shocked. we never thought that reporter: despite it all families of the missing refuse to give up hope. we believe that our life and death are in god s hands, she says. w
