( darya ) developing news out of new york. an apartment fire has killed 12 people. including 4 children. among those children are three girls ages 1. 2. and 7. the 4th child was a boy. his age has not been released. four more people are in critical condition. officials say flames spread through every floor of the 5- story bronx apartment. within a matter of minutes. about 170 firefighters worked in freezing cold weather to rescue people from the building. new york s mayor bill deblasio says if it had not been for first responders. the death toll could have been much higher. ( darya ) one witness says when the fire broke out.the smoke was intense. and people could be heard screaming. fire fighters say that some fighters say that some people were able to make it to the fire escape but the flames were so intense that many of the victims never made it out of their ap
