Black-Owned Media Leaders To Gather for TVN Webinar

Black-Owned Media Leaders To Gather for TVN Webinar Systemic racism in the advertising industry has left Black-owned media with a fraction of the advertising dollars that should be flowing their way, argues Byron Allen, owner of The Weather Channel and founder of Entertainment Studios and Allen Media Group. Allen, who maintains big marketers can ameliorate the problem by devoting 2% of their advertising spend on Black-owned media, will press his case during a TVNewsCheck webinar, Black Owned Media Matters, set to take place Thursday, April 15, at 1 p.m. ET. Register here. By TVN Staff | April 5, 2021 | 5:00 a.m. ET. GM CEO Mary Barra to meet with Black-owned media leaders

Mary Barra General Motors Co. CEO Mary Barra plans to meet with leaders of Black-owned media companies this week after the group took out a full-page ad in the Detroit Free Press on Sunday accusing Barra of ignoring multiple meeting requests, the automaker said. Even with the meeting scheduled, the group ran a nearly identical ad in The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday. The group had a preliminary meeting with GM s chief marketing officer, Deborah Wahl, on Monday ahead of the meeting with Barra, which was scheduled for Thursday, GM said. Instead, the automaker later Wednesday said it will hold a series of smaller meetings with the Black-owned media leaders and its current partners over the next few weeks and will work to schedule the meetings ASAP, GM spokesman Pat Morrissey told the Detroit Free Press.

Ebony set for digital relaunch Monday under new owner, former Bucks star Junior Bridgeman

ROBERT CHANNICK Chicago Tribune (TNS) Ebony, the Chicago-born magazine that served as the voice of Black America for more than 75 years, is set for a digital rebirth Monday under new owners. Bought out of bankruptcy for $14 million in December by Louisville-based Bridgeman Sports and Media, a company owned by retired Milwaukee Bucks star Ulysses Junior Bridgeman, Ebony will relaunch with a startup mentality, a lean operation and lofty aspirations. The storied publication s print format and its Chicago roots will be relegated to the past. We re going to ask for grace, because we did this quickly, said Michele Ghee, 54, a media veteran who was named CEO of Ebony in January. But we are in a rush to show that we have great intentions.
