PUP president denies 'NPA recruitment hub' claims; calls for unity and protection

Antonio Parlade, Jr., spokesman of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), recently claimed that PUP and several other universities in the country are being used by the NPA, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP), as recruitment grounds.

“This ruling favorable to Duterte Youth is a travesty to the party-list system, weakening its spirit as a space for marginalized sectors to take power. The Supreme Court’s decision to side with Duterte Youth’s proclamation, despite pending legal questions with COMELEC, is a blow to genuine youth representation,” Akbayan Youth chairperson Dr. RJ Naguit said in a statement.

In a resolution promulgated on November 3, 2020 but made public only on Tuesday, January 26, the SC ruled that the petition failed “to sufficiently show that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) committed grave abuse of discretion in rendering the challenged minute resolutions which, on the contrary, appear to be in accord with the facts and applicable law and jurisprudence.”
Listed as petitioners were Aunell Ross Angcos, Raainah Punzalan, Reeya Beatrice Magtalas, Raoul Danniel A. Manuel, and Abigail Alili Tan.
