like sea biscuit, this 3-year-old is as far from horse racing royalty as you can get. starting with perry martin and steve coburn, two working-class guys who tapped in to their life savings scrapping together $10,000 to breed their first colt. it hit me hard our dream had come true. reporter: to get their horse into shape, they turned to art sherman. at 77, he s now the oldest trainer to ever win the derby. he came back to churchill downs for the first time since 1955, when he was a 19-year-old exercise rider for that year s winner. a horse named swaps. it is like a storybook. kind of, you know? you look back at all of the years, you put in this game, and finally hit it, the kentucky derby, you know, this is a dream of a lifetime. reporter: it s a dream they almost gave away. two months ago someone wanted to buy a controlling share of the horse for $6 million. martin and coburn turned the money down. i cannot explain it.
