New mural coming to downtown Las Cruces

New mural coming to downtown Las Cruces From Staff Reports LAS CRUCES - A new mural featuring quail, patterns, and floral accents will be painted along a wall in downtown Las Cruces. The mural will introduce Downtown Las Cruces Partnership s new campaign titled “Go•Thrive•Be Downtown Las Cruces. The campaign is intended to draw residents downtown and elevate tourism in the district. NMCO Media is producing the mural along the west side of the Insta-Copy Imaging building, 318 N Main St. The concept of the work was to celebrate the classic New Mexican style we see in daily life, in a way that is fresh, colorful, and exciting kind of a reflection of what is happening in downtown Las Cruces right now, said Dana Apodaca, NMCO Media graphic designer and muralist. It’s a reinvigoration of life with new energy, new businesses, new attractions for tourists.”

CARES Act grant funding helped hundreds of Doña Ana County businesses

LAS CRUCES - Small businesses throughout New Mexico struggling beneath the weight and hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic were recently offered the opportunity to apply for $100 million in grant funding provided through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act. According to documents provided to the Las Cruces Sun-News by the New Mexico  Finance Authority, which administered the grants issued last month, fewer than half of the Doña Ana County businesses and nonprofits who applied for the grants received any of the funding. During a special legislative session in November, New Mexico s legislature allocated CARES Act money to assist small businesses. The New Mexico Finance Authority received 1,158 applications from Doña Ana County businesses in the 11-day time period. Only 540 businesses received a grant.
