Now's the time: Mid-valley entrepreneurs bet on themselves, despite the pandemic

Erica Baze and Travis Allen had formulated a plan to open up a bar and restaurant, but were waiting for the ideal location. When prime space on the Corvallis waterfront opened up due to the novel coronavirus pandemic and a resulting closure, the life partners turned business partners jumped at the opportunity. “Whenever you’re opening a business there are going to be unknowns. There’s always going to be a risk,” Allen said. Some Americans will see extra money in their bank accounts within the next few days. The first batch of stimulus payments from the Biden administrations 1.9 trillion COVID relief package is rolling out. President Biden says the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 will give the COVID stricken US economy a much-needed boost.  It changes the paradigm for the first time in a long time. This bill puts working people in this nation first. It s not hyperbole. It s a fact.  Direct deposits are going out first with $1,400 for eligible people wh

Science Pub: OSU’s Research Presented Virtually February 3, 2021 Are you curious about how climate change will impact Central Oregon? Or why so many people question climate change? Well, this information and more is available – or soon to be available – through Science Pub, a joint effort between Oregon State University Corvallis and Oregon State University Cascades, where researchers come and share what they have been working on with the public.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the events are now all hosted and attended online. Virtual attendees are encouraged to ask questions and get involved post presentation. And now, no matter if you signed up to attend or not, you can catch each event afterward as they are all made available to view immediately after streaming.

Annual traditions cancelled, Corvallis can still 'lift spirits' in new ways | The Daily Barometer: Oregon State University Student Newspaper, Corvallis News, Crime and Beaver Sports

Though many Corvallis traditions and events have been cancelled due to the pandemic, community leaders urge residents to explore and support efforts to create new, alternate forms of entertainment and celebration. The Pastega Christmas Lights Display, a generations-old Corvallis event founded by the late Mario Pastega and now funded through the Mario and Alma Pastega family foundation, was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.  Ken Pastega, Mario Pastega’s son, said the family instead chose to donate $40,000 to Linn Benton Food Share. Usually, Pastega said they have between 150 to 200 volunteers and four fully-paid individuals who work alongside him, Mike and Dana Strowbridge to create the display.
