Morris County teacher receives 100,000th COVID vaccine at Rockaway mega-site

ROCKAWAY  The Morris County vaccine mega-site has increased its number of inoculations per day and administered its 100,000th dose this week to a Morris County schoolteacher.  The site, housed in the former Sears store at the Rockaway Townsquare mall, can now vaccinate up to 3,500 people per day, seven days a week. On Tuesday the site, which opened in January, reached the 100,000 milestone.  We know many people are still patiently waiting, but we are making great strides and we will get to them,” said Morris County Commissioner Douglas Cabana. Susan Henry, a Morris County resident and teacher, received the milestone dose, being vaccinated along with her husband, Paul Henry, also a teacher. Last month, Gov. Phil Murphy announced the site would administer up to 2,400 vaccinations a day at its full capacity but increased the limit this week.

Morris County #2 – Sussex County #10 Statewide in Issuing COVID-19 Inoculations

Share This The Morris County Board of Commissioners released data today showing, per capita, Morris County is second among all New Jersey counties in the number of vaccinations issued to date, but emphasized the dearth of vaccine supplies in New Jersey is hampering the ability of people in all counties to schedule vaccination appointments. But Low Supply of Vaccine Statewide Hampers Public Ability to Make Appointments “We want it to be clear that everyone here at Morris County fully understands the frustration people have with being unable to get appointments for vaccinations.  It may not make anyone feel better, but that problem is universal throughout New Jersey and other states, despite what some people may be seeing on social media.  The problem is that there is an extremely high demand for vaccine, yet a very small supply,” said Commissioner Douglas Cabana.

Morris County approves $26 million emergency communications upgrade

Morris County approves $26 million emergency communications upgrade Updated Dec 13, 2020; The Morris County Board of Freeholders approved a $26 million contract last week to upgrade and double the operating capacity of the emergency radio network and infrastructure relied upon daily by Morris County law enforcement, emergency management, and municipal first responders. Upgrades, improvements and the relocation of some of the system’s infrastructure at 13 supporting sites are outlined under the contract approved with Motorola Solution Inc., which also includes the addition of one new tower and supporting facilities to close coverage gaps. The project is similar to others undertaken in New Jersey and around the nation because a provision in a 2012 federal tax law required first responders and law enforcement in 11 major metropolitan areas to switch to a different wireless spectrum being set aside for a nationwide public safety broadband network.
