State Senator Doris Turner is offering some strong words about the failure of her bill to allow Capital Township residents alone to vote on township leadership.
Currently the township supervisor and assessor posts are held by the Sangamon County Treasurer and Clerk… officials who are elected countywide, not just by township residents. Turner says that means township residents don’t have true representation… and in a tweet, she compares that to pre-Civil War policies that counted slaves as three-fifths of a person. Turner says in the tweet, “Plantation mentality doesn’t work for any of us in 2021.”
