There was a mild drama today before the independent investigative panel on human rights violations by the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and other police units when some relatives of a victim of an alleged extrajudicial killing by police operatives disrupted the testimony of the first respondent in their petition.
The family of the deceased, Festus Idehen, had petitioned the panel, alleging that he was extrajudicially killed by the police.
The petitioner joined ASP Kingsley Ojeomokhai of the defunct SARS, Federal Capital Territory (FCT); defunct SARS, FCT; Commissioner of Police, FCT and the Inspector-General of Police as respondents in the petition marked 2020/IIP-SARS/ABJ/104.

A case bordering on alleged abuse of office came up for hearing at the ongoing Independent Investigative Panel on SARS and other units of the Nigeria Police.
In a complaint filed by Sani Bello, a research analyst with Save the Soul Transparency and Eagle eyes International foundation, Bello stated in his petition the atrocities suffered by one of the organization’s agents, Dr. George Davidson in the hands of some police officers in Abuja.
Narrating before the panel, Dr. Davidson (victim) stated that in the cause of carrying out his official duties of exposing corruption in every sector of the society, he reported the activities of a level 9 officer (Regina) who works with the Nigerian Civil Service Commission who is also an owner of a big estate as well as a serving Director of a private organization.

The elder sister to a man allegedly killed by an officer of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Felix Idehen, on Tuesday told the National Human Rights Commission’s independent investigative panel on defunct SARS and other police units that an officer of SARS was responsible for the death of her brother and he also refused to release his corpse for burial.
Mrs Doris Idedia stated this while being cross-examined by counsel for the respondents, G.C. Ijeoma, adding that though she was not present when event leading to the arrest of her brother happened, the deceased told her everything that happened in Kaduna before he was brought to Abuja where he died.
