While driving by the Santa Cruz Town Clock during recent storms, Santa Cruz Mayor Fred Keeley saw that the flag on top of the clock tower was worn and tattered. He thought that, in light of Presidents Day, it would be nice to retire the weathered flag and replace it.
According to the agenda report submitted by county staff, initial countywide damage estimates from storm events on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30 amount to more than $1.5 million. That is well above the estimated $1.2 million county threshold for state funding support as specified in the California Disaster Assistance Act.
