vote counts. the departments found those claims were not credible. not credible, as in, there was no foreign interference. the kind trump allies, rudy giuliani, sidney powell and others repeatedly touted on the campaign trail as evidence to fuel their dangerous lie on the legitimacy of the november result. of course, that was just a small part of the disinformation apparatus that trump and his supporters deployed in the weeks and months surrounding the election. there was also the lie that china not so much russia was involved in a massive election manipulation campaign. here s donald trump breaking with his own fbi director christopher wray on that point. we ve certainly seen very active, very active efforts by the russians to influence our election in 2020 through maligned foreign influence side of things. social media, use of proxies, state media, online journals, et cetera. an effort to both sow divisiveness and discord and i think the intelligence community has ass
And so we re working to hold folks accountable and bring positive change to our city. so let s talk about these recess rallies that i talked about at the top, introducing you, they are going on across the country. but there were also the march for our lives across the country, you organized one of them. there were sit-ins and die-ins. why are you convinced or at least hopeful based on recent history that what we re going to see today is going to have a greater effect than what we ve seen over the last several years with demonstrations like the recess rallies? yeah, i mean these recess rallies put on by every town, they are incredible. this weekend will be monumental for our country and the issue of gun violence prevention. i talked with folks and organized with folks and mentor organizers who survived the sandy hook sheetinooting.
When congress left for d.c. last year, they came home to people holding die-ins and vigils. people dogging they will at town halls and showing up outside local offices and refusing to leave. the republican effort to repeal the affordable care act failed. all that pressure worked. even when everyone said it wouldn t, it worked. now this fourth of july with another national 5:30 over the fate of the supreme court brewing. we are starting to see it getting started. the stakes if anything are higher. but everybody knows the play book now. here it comes.
Who knows if democratic senators up to that task, but voters who want that outcome seem to have a very clear strategy for trying to get it. if you want your senator to fight, if you want to stiffen your senator s spine, you to show up and you can show one a cardboard cutout. civic engagement in the trump era. we have seen this before and we have seen it work. this week marks the start of the july 4 recess which means the senate is back home for the holiday. we know from experience what that can look like when the country is fired up about something. the last fourth of july break was the apex of the fight over republicans effort to take away the affordable care act, to take away health insurance from millions of people. when congress left d.c. for the fourth of july process last year, they came to people lining the streets and holding die-ins and candlelight vigils, people following their representatives across the state, dogging them
