The race raises money for student scholarships.
On Tuesday, Doris, 70, died after a battle with cancer.
Fall River police officer David Pacheco took over organizing the race in 2010 after it was announced at that time it would be the last year of the event.
Pacheco called Doris “a true inspiration,” who gave him great guidance on organizing the race.
“I think it meant a lot to her that we kept it going, with losing Tommy in 1994 in the line of duty. It wasn’t just keeping his memory alive with the scholarship in his name it was to keep scholarships in the names of other police officers alive as well,” said Pacheco. “That was very close to her heart.”
