An apartment complex with 160 units proposed for Santa Maria received narrow approval after neighbors appealed the project to the City Council amid concerns about inadequate parking spilling onto nearby streets.
After 90 minutes of discussion, council members voted 3-2 to deny an appeal from Pacific Crest Estates homeowners and approve the Centennial Gardens Apartments proposal.
