Show Transcript PROTESTERS WERE NEARBY. THE EERILY SILENT STATEHOUSE GROUNDS WAS PACKED WITH IOWA STATE PATROL OFFICERS SUNDAY, STATIONED TO PROTECT IOWA’S CAPITOL IN THE EVENT OF AN ARMED PROTEST. THIS WAS ONE THING THE FBI WARNED COULD HAPPEN IN ALL 50 STATE CAPITALS THIS WEEK LEADING UP TO PRESIDENT-ELECT JOE BIDEN’S INAUGURATION ON WEDNESDAY. ROAD BARRIERS WERE SET UP ON FINKBINE DRIVE SOMETIME ON SATURDAY, PREVENTING CARS FROM DRIVING UP AND DOWN THE STREET DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE CAPITOL’S WEST STEPS. STATE PATROL CARS WERE PARKED AT NEARLY EVERY ENTRANCE TO THE BUILDING, AND EVEN A BLACK UNMARKED VAN SAT WATCHING TRAFFIC TO THE SOUTH, WITH DES MOINES POLICE OFFICERS PATROLLING THE SURROUNDING STREETS.
