Sunshine Coast Council will soon start upgrading the intersection of Arthur Street and Bowman Road to provide significant safety improvements and amenity for the 15,000 road users who enter and cross the intersection daily.
The upgrade will include traffic signals, cycle lanes, pedestrian and cycle crossings, and footpaths to make it easier and safer for all users.
Divisional Councillor Terry Landsberg said he was looking forward to seeing the intersection upgraded to make it more approachable and accessible for users.
“Considering the location and close proximity to schools and sports clubs, it’s especially important we provide safe crossing points for those who ride or walk,” Cr Landsberg said.

Mr Down said from his experience on the Gold Coast light rail it had several key advantages which made it more viable. He said the much larger population helped boost its catchment as well as the fact the rail was on a major road which had replicas to the east and west which enabled the impact on road traffic to be minimised. Mr Down also said the Gold Coast had been clever not to run the light rail along the beachfront as they knew the value the visual beauty of the beaches held for the region. Councillors Greg Rogerson, Jason O Pray, Jenny McKay, Ted Hungerford and Rick Baberowski voted against the development on June 21, 2018. Councillors John Connolly, Christian Dickson, Steve Robinson, Tim Dwyer, Peter Cox and Mayor Mark Jamieson voted in favour.
Dickson had no knowledge of mooted refusal: Cr Dickson said his only insight into the assessment was that council planners had been concerned about a number of matters ranging from height, density, traffic, environment and resident objections . At no stage was I aware that a refusal had been proposed and reviewed by senior staff including those from Strategic Planning and Economic Development, he said.
