Arends is retiring after a long career in public service and helping to lead the utility company.
He started as a Deputy City Treasurer in 1990 before starting with Traverse City Light and Power in 2008.
Arends was promoted to Executive Director in 2013.
The utility company thanked him for his 31 years serving the Traverse City area.
