An extraordinary year full of challenges and uncertainties is coming to an end. All the more important to reflect on the good things that happened this year and look positively into the future.
We start with our review in a slightly unusual way, namely with the most recent event going backwards in time.
New districted opened at Zurich Airport
After a construction period of just over five years we opened the new district at Zurich Airport – THE CIRLCE. For long, it was Switzerland’s largest construction site. Now it has been transformed into a new district with two hotels and a congress center, a hospital, numerous shops, restaurants and headquarters for international companies. Enterprises and outlets such as Microsoft, SAP, Omega and Dufry already moved in and others will follow. Already in May we, Flughafen Zürich AG, moved into our new “Homebase”.
The project was then sidelined during the SP regime, which began pressing for an international airport in Agra so as to build a connectivity with its dream project, Lucknow-Agra Expressway.
The project was revived during the current BJP regime, and with the same party at the centre and the state, things could move way faster. The site clearance for the airport came in 2017. Over the past three years, various clearances, including security, environment, bidder, etc followed. It is Zurich Airport International AG that won the bid for developing the airport in December last year. The airport is expected to share the load of the IGI Airport in Delhi. NOIDA/LUCKNOW: NCR’s second airport, coming up at Jewar in Greater Noida, will officially be known as Noida International Airport and will have as its constant companion a logo depicting a flying sarus crane, Uttar Pradesh’s state bird that has one of its richest habitats in the wetlands around Noida.
The decision was taken on Thursday after senior executives of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), the subsidiary of concessionaire Zurich AG that has been formed to build and operate the new airport, and officials of the civil aviation department met chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

The new airport at UP s Jewar will be known as Noida International Greenfield Airport and will have image of a flying stork (also known as sarus - UP s state bird) as its logo.
The new airport, coming up in Uttar Pradesh’s Jewar on the outskirts of Delhi will be known as Noida International Greenfield Airport. Located around 70 kilometres from Delhi, the airport is being built by Swiss developer Zurich Airport International.
