Trumpet star Adam, 21, playing his way to the top ADAM Delbridge Smith, 21, is a man with a mission. When he leaves the Royal Northern College of Music where he is studying the trumpet, he would like to become a musical director and conductor of an orchestra or a brass band. Last January he got well on the way to realising his ambition when, he was appointed musical director of Stretford Band. Before lockdown in March, he and his non-competitive band visited Glossop Band Club where he put together a programme of existing music and new pieces. “It was a huge success and the response was amazing. The band played well and we got fantastic feedback. We also gave a concert in a church in Urmston which went down well. .
