Afghanistan: Weekly Humanitarian Update (25 – 31 January 2021) Format South: Hundreds of people displaced by ongoing fighting in Kandahar province Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued in Hilmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces. In Kandahar, fighting continued mainly in Arghandab, Zheray and Panjwayi districts. Ongoing fighting displaced hundreds of people in Kandahar province, but the exact number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) is yet to be confirmed. Humanitarian actors with coordination of provincial authorities are assessing the needs of IDPs and will provide them with immediate assistance. Farmers and agricultural activities continued to be affected by ongoing fighting. All movements on the main highway-1 connecting Hilmand to Kandahar provinces reportedly resumed, however improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the highway continue to pose a threat.

Afghanistan: Weekly Humanitarian Update (18 – 24 January 2021) Format South: Fighting reportedly displaced over 10,000 people in Hilmand Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued in Hilmand, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Zabul provinces. In Kandahar, fighting continued mainly in Arghandab, Zheray and Panjwayi which is creating problems for farmers who cultivating the crops. Also, the threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and illegal checkpoints on main roads connecting Kandahar to Hilmand and the western part of the country are hindering civilian movement. In Uruzgan province, clashes between ANSF and an NSAG continued in Dehrawud, Gizab and Tirinkot districts. IED detonations resulted in civilian casualties across Uruzgan province. A child was reportedly killed and two women wounded by an IED detonation in Sayed Abad area, Gizab district.

In Kandahar, fighting continued mainly in Arghandab, Zheray and Panjwayi which is creating problems for farmers who cultivating the crops. Afghanistan: Weekly Humanitarian Update (4 – 10 January 2021) Format South: Closure of a health centre deprives 10,000 people of access to services Fighting between Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and a non-state armed group (NSAG) continued in Hilmand, Kandahar and Uruzgan provinces. On 9 January, reportedly 18 people including children were killed when a rocket hit a house in Khashrod district, Nirmorz province. An investigation of the incident is ongoing. In Hilmand province, fighting between the ANSF and an NSAG continued in Nahre-Saraj, Lashkargah, Nad-e-Ali and Nawa-e-Barakzaiy districts. According to initial reports, five children were killed and three others wounded by airstrikes in the Basharan area of Lashkargah district. Clearing operations of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) continued in Nahr-e-Saraj district.
