For Declan Meade and his peers in the literary journal sector, the past year has been one of contrasts.
On the positive side, the budget of the Arts Council, which supports a number of journals through grants, rose from €75 million in 2020 to €130 million this year. But at the same time, the extended closure of bookshops cut off one of the main routes to market for literary journals.
