After more than a century as a Mankato landmark, big changes may be in store for the School Sisters of Notre Dame campus on Good Counsel Hill.
Citing the need to raise money for its mission, as well as care for its aging sisters, the religious congregation has announced plans to sell the 135-acre campus on a bluff that overlooks downtown Mankato and the Minnesota River. We have developed mutual relationships with generations of people in the Mankato area, the School Sisters said in a statement. Letting go of sacred and treasured spaces is a historic journey for us; one that we are committed to do in prayer, dialogue and collaboration.

NEW YORK (WABC) Although thousands more Americans are set to be inoculated with the Moderna vaccine this week, the coronavirus continues to surge across much of the country.
The U.S. is currently averaging over 211,000 new COVID-19 cases every day, and just in the first 20 days of December, the country has already logged more 4 million confirmed cases. Additionally, there have been nearly 50,000 reported death recorded so far this month.
Last week, the U.S. reported more than 1.5 million COVID-19 cases, roughly equivalent to 150 Americans testing positive for the virus every minute.

Four women religious died on the same day, adding to the sum of eight nuns who succumbed in a little more than a week in mid-December in Wisconsin after complications from COVID-19 as the virus spread in the facility that cared for them.
Group settings that care for the elderly, such as Notre Dame of Elm Grove in suburban Milwaukee where the women lived, have caused alarm during the age of COVID-19. Many communities of men and women religious, particularly those that have members in their 80s and 90s and beyond, have opted for limited contact with the public.

ELM GROVE, Wis. â Eight nuns living at a retirement home for sisters in suburban Milwaukee died of COVID-19 complications in the last week â including four who passed away on the same day â a grim reminder of how quickly the virus can spread in congregate living situations, even when precautions are taken.
