The Fairfield City Council met last night, and police matters again dominated the meeting. The agenda called for potentially approving the hiring of three police officers, but that did not occur after aldermen returned from a lengthy executive session. Aldermen did approve the creation of a new eligibility list through testing and offered a $2,500 bonus for officers hired by lateral transfer. After a public hearing, aldermen discussed a $50,000 bid for the electric plant property by the water tower downtown; it did not approve the sale of the building last night, pending a review of a contract to be formulated by Rice. The building could be developed into an industrial hemp manufacturing facility. In his report at last night's meeting, Mayor Dreith said the city will hold a clean-up event called "Renew Fairfield" on April 23rd.
