moment. a lot going on this morning, but let s start here in miami. nbc s peter alexander is here in the debate hall with me. give us the inside scoop. what are we seeing from the candidates as they make their final push heading into tonight? well, different strategies for different candidates as they prepare for this first evening here. chris, last night we caught one elizabeth warren. she was participating in a town hall. several people in attendance sht. she was there late into the evening even in advance of tonight s debate. she announced what was a surprise that she would be going to that emergency shelter that s become so controversial, the biggest one in the country that s hosting some of those migrant children as an effort to shine a harsh light on president trump s administration policies before she gets to the debate here this evening. for other candidates, it s a different look. they ve been hinted the scenbeh less on-camera time. amy klobuchar has spent time watching
this before we go a little what we were able to do today. i went out and the streets outside the debate hall in miami and got to talk to a bunch of different folks from yang, biden supporters, klobuchar, sanders. there was a lot of folks out here, as you can see. that s a 20-year-old biden supporter who says he wants to cast his first presidential vote ever for joe biden. and one of them was telling me that they already, to your point, michael, i didn t know you were going to say that, but you did. one of them told me they already shifted from being a kamala harris supporter to being a die-hard elizabeth warren supporter. take a look. elizabeth warren is my first choice. my first choice was kamala harris. but after listening to elizabeth talk, listening to our plans, i thought you shifted. you moved. i shifted. okay.
doctors or surrogates and ask them questions like this in their face. this is where you ll hear from candidates or their surrogates what they really wanted to say on the debate stage but they didn t get done or maybe they want to reenforce a message that got out there. reporters will ask what they really meant or what did they want to say or their reaction to somebody who said something about them. as much of interest happens here many the spin room as it does in the debate hall. what you don t want to do is take up 600 seats in the debate hall with journalists. that s the number of journalists, working journalists who will be in the room. they are sitting at their tables. they are working on their computers. they got everything they need to file their stories. they have wi-fi. this room will be full. 600 people are going to be here before the debate starts and once the debate starts this is where journalists listen to it. this is where the candidates and their surrogates come during t
