The trees are known as Monkey Puzzle trees. Not indigenous here, but common in australia. No one seems to know how they got here. Only that they have been here for decades. The trees have been there. People know that theyre there. You know, it was a freak accident. Youre taking your chances under a lot of different trees, especially in the drought. This type of tree can produce tree pods up to 35 centimeters in diameter and weighing as much as 40 pounds. The one that hit mace was the equivalent of a bowling ball. He is now suing the park service and wants something done before anyone else is injured. At a bare minimum, i think the park owed a duty of care to all visitors to warn of this known danger, including posting signage around the grove of trees advising of the risk of falling seed pods. Reporter now the lawsuit calls for the trees to either be cut down or maintained in a more strict manner. They are also seeking 5 million in ....
