Tele reporter Amy Hall tries the viral Weetabix and baked beans breakfast

February 12, 2021, 8:15 am Social media users were left confused and quite possibly sickened after a new breakfast combo went viral this week – Weetabix topped with baked beans. Throughout my time at the Tele I have endured some tough and wacky challenges set by our wise and wonderful editor Dave Lord, however, getting a call this morning to try the viral Weetabix and beans breakfast was possibly the worst yet. I am never one to say no to trying out some new food, how bad could it be? I love beans, I enjoy Weetabix, surely it couldn’t be that rotten? Why should bread have all the fun, when there s Weetabix? Serving up @HeinzUK Beanz on bix for breakfast with a twist. #ItHasToBeHeinz#HaveYouHadYourWeetabixpic.twitter.com/R0xq4Plbd0

Blood drive dates set for year ahead | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 8, 2021 ESCANABA Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for blood donors and a viable source of blood supply has remained paramount. While COVID-19 altered many facets of day-to-day life, hospitals like OSF St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group remained open and operational, dedicated to providing lifesaving care to patients. Yet, with fewer businesses operating in traditional capacities and more people following stay-at-home orders to support COVID-19 preventative measures, fewer blood drives and donations have occurred. In an effort to further support a dependable blood supply, OSF St. Francis is proud to partner with Guardian Flight & AirMedCare Network, located on the hospital’s campus, to host a series of blood drives in 2021 in partnership with The Community Blood Center (CBC) of Appleton, Wis.; CBC and OSF St. Francis entered into a partnership in March 2019 with CBC becoming the sole provider of blood, platelets and plasma for OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Fireworks tonight in Escanaba | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 31, 2020 ESCANABA Although some New Year’s Eve staples have been canceled in Escanaba, others will happen on schedule. Those celebrating New Year’s Eve are reminded the city of Escanaba will set off fireworks in Ludington Park at 9 p.m. on Thursday. The Liferides program, however, will not be offering rides this New Year’s Eve. The Liferides program was introduced in 1983 by OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group in partnership with The Island Resort & Casino and numerous community organizations in an effort to help prevent alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities on New Year’s Eve. “Offering Liferides in the midst of this pandemic conflicts with the COVID-19 best practices we are encouraging our community members to follow,” said Dave Lord, president of OSF St. Francis Hospital.

No Liferides being offered this New Year's Eve | News, Sports, Jobs

ccarlson@dailypress.net ESCANABA OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group has announced the Liferides program is being paused this New Year’s Eve. The program was introduced in 1983 by OSF St. Francis in partnership with The Island Resort & Casino and numerous community organizations in an effort to help prevent alcohol-related traffic accidents and fatalities on New Year’s Eve. “Offering Liferides in the midst of this pandemic conflicts with the COVID-19 best practices we are encouraging our community members to follow,” said Dave Lord, president of OSF St. Francis Hospital. As New Year’s Eve approaches, the hospital urged people to limit the time they spend indoors with people outside of their immediate household “or established social pod.” Continuing the practices of mask wearing, maintaining social distancing and frequent hand wishing is also encouraged.
