The State of North Carolina has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit Dare County’s six towns brought against it. The Oct. 6 lawsuit challenges House Bill 259, a surprise Dare County-specific provision included in the state budget, which usurps their abilities to govern their towns, local leaders said.
