WHAT: The University of Rhode Island will mark a significant moment in its 130-year history when it celebrates the inauguration of Marc B. Parlange as the University’s 12th president on Thursday, Sept. 22, on the University’s Kingston Campus. The ceremonial event will include dignitaries from across Rhode Island and New England and will feature student performances. Parlange joined URI as president in August 2021 after serving as provost of Monash University, Australia’s largest research university. Over his 30-year professional higher education career, Parlange has held academic leadership, research, and faculty positions at several prestigious institutions, including Monash; the University of British Columbia; the Swiss public research institute École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne; Johns Hopkins University; and the University of California, Davis. Parlange was born in Providence, Rhode Island. .
