Election will be absolutely free: Bangabandhu

BANGABANDHU VISITS NATORE Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today reiterates that elections set for March 7 would be absolutely free and fair. Pointing out that Bangladesh is a democratic country, he says there would be no interference in the elections. Addressing a public meeting at Natore, the prime minister says he would like to warn those who want to create disorder and foil elections. They would not gain anything by showing arms. The people of Bangladesh are capable of snatching those arms, he adds. Bangabandhu regrets that some greedy elements are indulged in corruption even with regard to relief materials. He gives a fervent call for mass resistance against corruption and crimes.

Work to establish a happy society: Bangabandhu

SWADHIN BANGLA BETAR WORKERS ROLE LAUDED Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman today makes a fervent appeal to all to work for the establishment of a happy and exploitation-free society on the ashes left by the enemy. He says the lakhs of shaheeds of the Liberation War would never come back. But those toiling people who survived the war must be enabled to enjoy the fruits of independence. He asks all to work in this spirit. The prime minister speaks at a function at the Gono Bhaban organised by the Swadhin Bangla Betar Karmi Samity, a body of artists, announcers and others who had been connected with the Swadhin Bangla Betar, which used to operate from Mujibnagar during the months of the Liberation War. Formalities for the commencement of the constitution of the People s Republic of Bangladesh on December 16 are being undertaken by the Gono Parishad (Constituent Assembly) at its two-day special session. This morning, Speaker Mohammadullah puts his signature to authenticate the constitution. The speaker then calls upon Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to put his signature on the original Bangla copy and on its English translation. After signing the constitution, Bangabandhu says, I am a proud man today. Our people are proud too at this moment. He further adds, Our people for the last 25 years had been yearning for a supreme law for the conduct of their own affairs. Now that has been achieved by them within a short period of 11 months of the Liberation.
