Capitol police horribly outnumbered and targeted by The Mob. One officer died. More than 100 were hurt. Some seriously. Three other officers later died by suicide. Today, the scene quite different. Officials. I think you have seen the airfield is secure and every day in Security Operations Commanders are always improving the Security Environment. So as the commander on the ground at every level finds those things that need to be improved to increase the security to allow mission success, they will do those things that they have authority to do on a daily basis. So the ability to bring more people on and to continue those that is what we will continue to look at. Do they have the snablt. I dont want to get ahead of where we are. Those are people scrambling to leave their country as the afghan government collapses and the taliban take control. Incredibly disturbing videos being posted all over Social Media this morning. Afghans swarming the runway, trying to chase down u. S. Air Force Pla planes, some clinging to the sides as they taxi down a runway. Witnesses tell Cnn Theyve heard gunshots fired. Its hard to see how thats, at all, a safe situation. The u. S. Embassy has been ev eva evacuated. Officials are warning americas who are still in the capital not to travel to the airport. The u. S. Has dispatched an additional 1,000 Combat Troops for a total of 6,000 to secure the perimeter at the Airport And Help get american diplomatic personnel and others out safely. About twice as many who were there for the counterterror mission. President biden has been monitoring the situation
Following the shooting and killing of Daunte Wright. Out here in front of the Brooklyn Center Police Department, debris is everywhere, including bags of medical supplies. This case is moving swift. Thats something some of the protesters are pleased with. We could learn later today if the officer who fired that shot that killed the 20yearold father will be charged. Yesterday she submitted her Resignation Letter to the city of Brooklyn Center, but the mayor told me hes not accepting her resignation and protesters said a resignation is not enough. Thats part of the reason they took the street well beyond the curfew yesterday. At least 60 people were arrested. And prior to the demonstration we saw here last night, we heard from wrights family, including his aunt who was still trying to get her mind around everything thats happened. Listen in.
