State trooper known for Thruway patrols charged in drug case

ALBANY A veteran state trooper who is well known for his aggressive patrols along the Thruway was arrested recently in Ulster County and charged with drug possession as part of a spin-off investigation into a Greene County drug ring, officials said.
Trooper Robert C. Coleman, 46, who joined the State Police in 2000 and lives in Slingerlands, was charged with misdemeanor drug possession following his arrest. The investigation was handled, in part, by the State Police Special Investigations Unit.

New York State Police and the Greene County District Attorney have announced a number of arrests – including that of a state trooper – in what they call a large-scale narcotics operation.
Authorities say they executed search warrants in Greene and Albany counties on Monday and seized 500 grams of cocaine, two illegal handguns, three illegal AR-15 rifles, multiple parts for so-called “ghost” guns and about $10,000 in cash. Police say 46-year-old Robert Coleman of Slingerlands was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. Authorities say he is a state trooper assigned to Troop T. He and Jessica Spinner, also of Slingerlands, were issued appearance tickets to Saugerties Town Court.

DWI: Ryan Gilmore, 33, of Coxsackie, was arrested by state police at Catskill at 10:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, and was charged with drunken driving and driving with a blood-alcohol content at or exceeding 0.08 percent, both misdemeanors. Gilmore was released with tickets for Catskill Village Court.

Drugs: Julie A. Kogut, 41, of West Camp, was arrested at 9:36 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18 in the village, and Jacob D. Doris, 43, of Kingston was arrested at 10:04 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the town. Kogut was charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and Doris was charged with two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance. Both were released with tickets; Kogut for Catskill Village Court and Doris for Catskill Town Court. Further information was not immediately available.

COXSACKIE â A certified nursing assistant contracted to work at Coxsackie Correctional Facility was arrested late afternoon Friday on felony sex charges, state police Public Information Officer Steven Nevel said Monday.
Amber M. VanValkenburgh, 35, of Albany, was arrested by state police and charged with third-degree rape of a victim incapable of consent, and third-degree criminal sex act with a victim incapable of consent, both class E felonies; and official misconduct, a class A misdemeanor, Nevel said.
