i wish we saw much more from republicans, not simply defense of brett kavanaugh the man but a defense of the system that has made this a country worth living in. the united states senator stands up and says you ve been accuses that they come it s your job to prove yourself innocent. a number of them said that. where is there beside? not to defend brett kavanaugh, although that s fine, too to defend the rest of us, that presumption of innocence is the whole reason we are pleased to be americans. where are you, defending her principles? if they weren t there. i don t know why. i m sick of democrats think it s just a job interview. no, this is a man s life. it has hung in the balance s entire time. he has two little girls at home but he has somehow had to find a way takes blame this too, and a wife. this isn t just a job interview. he is already lost his job. i m not done. senators have been doxxed. that there let s put on the line, over a year, an attempted assassination of steve
the government bar people under 21, these are people eligible to vote and serve in the military from buying firearms. again, most people under 21 haven t done anything wrong. they haven t been convicted of a crime or committed crimes. but a few of them have. so democrats are saying all must be punished. imagine applying the same standard to other constitutional rights. for example, let s say somebody shouted fire in a crowded theater and scores died. would the rest of us lose our right to free speech? these are real questions. they are inconvenient so soon after the massacre in parkland for which the country is still grieving, but we should remember they is a country worth living in precisely because we take the constitution seriously. when we stop taking it seriously it, won t be a country worth living. in president trump seems to have remembered that. many on the left never knew it and they don t care anyway. you often hear progressives say they want an honest conversation about guns
people. terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings but they cannot touch the foundation of america. these acts shattered steel but they cannot dent the steel of american resolve. none of us will ever forget this day yet we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world. what it did was reaffirm to me that this is a country worth living in and these are people worth defending and that there are things in this world that hu to be willing to die for. i look back and see all of these firefighters and these cops who sacrificed their lives because of me and i pick up the paper and i m looking back and i m seeing the memorial service and the kids are in tears and i tell myself, that could have been me. we shared such a powerful experience and depended on each
really at the end of the day, substantively, what do we expect to happen once we get beyond this election and how does this country pull itself forward and move forward? i think a fork in the road. it either goes back into the vicious circle i described of poverty, instability. let s be honest about it. the neighboring countries playing a role and seeing as a state in which they will have influence. or you can see a world in which lowell the locally a distribution of power and 40,000 valleys and villages and you see there the different communities learning to live together and actually make some of the economic and social gains that will make the country worth living. i ve been to the country many times. what you have is an extraordinary potential. remember in the 70s, people talked about kabul the paris of the east. in the 19th century, it was the silk road, the crossroads of asia.
