Win with Council's soft plastics survey: Bega Valley

27 July 2021 A Bega Valley Shire Council survey and competition has kicked off an awareness campaign to increase soft plastics recycling in the shire. The survey and competition, offering three eco-hampers containing a Jackie French book and a bundle of soft plastics alternatives, will ask how the community disposes of its soft plastic waste. Project Officer, Amber Gault said the survey and competition are the first steps in a broader campaign aimed at increasing awareness of this type of problem waste. “Soft plastics are often treated as general waste because they can’t be disposed of in the regular yellow recycling bins,” Ms Gault said.

Promised Woolgoolga Bike Lane Work to Begin

Pictured above is an example of a permanent on-road, protected bike lane. Work on a protected on-road bike lane along Clarence and Beach Streets – an important component of the Woolgoolga Town Centre Masterplan – is expected to begin in late July 2021. “A bike path network that offers a pleasurable, easy and safe route for people to enjoy the seaside village atmosphere of Woolgoolga – and simply to get to the beach, shops or work – is a major feature of the Woolgoolga Town Centre Masterplan,” said Mick Raby, Council’s Director Sustainable Infrastructure. “Not only will it offer an alternative way of moving around, but it will help improve overall road safety in the town centre by encouraging safer speeds along Beach Street – another need identified in the Masterplan.”
