OZONE PARK, Queens (WABC) The FDNY is mourning this year s first active-duty death after a firefighter died of COVID.
Joe Ferrugia was a 30-year veteran of the department and a member of Ladder Company 142 in Queens.
Ferrugia was among the many first responders who served during the September 11 attacks at the World Trade Center.
Ferrugia leaves behind three children.
The Firefighters Union describes the loss as heartbreaking and devastating.
Ferrugia was 61 years old.
THE BRONX (WABC) Yankee Stadium is now being prepared as a mega-vaccination site, Governor Cuomo announced on Friday.
The Bronx continues to be an area of concern. The positivity rate in the borough is 7.6 percent.
Vaccines at Yankee Stadium will only be made available for residents of the Bronx.
Details on when it will open and how to make an appointment are expected in the coming days.

NEW YORK (WABC) As President Joe Biden announced new steps to boost vaccine supply across the country, some Tri-State leaders say it s still not enough.
Biden announced the surge in deliveries to states Tuesday, along with the news that the federal government is purchasing an additional 100 million doses each of the two approved coronavirus vaccines. With existing purchases, the White House expects to be able to deliver enough of the two-dose regimens to states to vaccinate 300 million people.
If those figures hold, New York state will see its weekly allotment of first doses increase to about 290,000. New Jersey would receive about 116,000 every week and Connecticut s weekly allotment will increase to about 54,400 doses.
WOODSIDE, Queens (WABC) Even with the widespread concerns over the contagious new COVID variants, it seems many people just want to party - and in tight, packed spaces.
Authorities say they shut down another illegal club - this one on Roosevelt Avenue in Woodside, Queens on Saturday.
Police found more than 75 people inside - but COVID was not the only concern. Officials say the place was a fire hazard with a blocked exit and dangerous levels of carbon monoxide

He said this past week was the first week with declining hospitalizations since early September.
COVID cases are also declining across all regions of the country. Hospitalizations are the lowest since mid-December. I think the next 4 weeks will be very telling, if that dip is temporary after the high of the holidays, or if we re heading in the right direction to improve our nation, said Dr. Shashank Ravi, Assistant Director, Stanford Emergency Department.
However, over the weekend, the US passed 25 million cases. Five million of those cases occurred since January 1. The death toll now tops 418,000 people.
