Ozark Regional Transit officials said Thursday they need to go to voters in the four major cities sooner rather than later with a proposal for a dedicated sales tax to pay for expanding public transit.
Regional planners and transit providers are hoping to get more than half a million dollars in federal grant money to help upgrade bus stops in areas of Fayetteville, Springdale and Rogers that are deemed to be "areas of persistent poverty" based on census data.
Ozark Regional Transit is back to within 10% of prepandemic ridership, and it s planning to work with cities to begin making some improvements to bus stops in 2023.
