There is one seat up for election that is currently held by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, who is running for re-election at the age of 88. The Democratic candidates for the US Senate election are Abby Finkenauer, Michael Franken, and Glenn Hurst. Finkenauer has served in both state and national legislature positions, most recently as an Iowa representative for the first congressional district of Iowa. She is the youngest woman to get a bill passed in the House of Representatives. The bill covered support for small businesses and Finkenauer was also one of the first women to ever represent Iowa in the House.
