Rejected by democrats, myself included. and there was a huge mistake on our part. spirit was rejected by a lot of people. but this went back to the 2006 push under george w. bush that was the last time we actually had a sensible immigration policy proposed. it was democrats and republicans that killed it. what we re doing right now with this push, and this is where i do disagree very strongly with rich, is that the interior enforcement, while border crossings were already dropping big time, it s not making america anymore safe. in fact, the more you terrorize these immigrant communities, the less safe america is becoming. dana: s leg would like that, rich timoney says terrorizing community s, is that what you are saying that president trump is winning on that the patent, because if you are dealing with the illegals and criminals and getting them out of the country, then why would she want to do that?

Intervention. the safety of our families and communities is at stake in our discussion today. we should apply the utmost professionalism to this issue, which leads me to my second point. we need to conduct a thorough, fair analysis and to do no harm. the approach of today s hearing, i fear, does not meet these standards. today s hearing is entitled the extent of radicalization of the american muslim community, and that community s response. it s true that specific individuals, including some who are muslims, are violent extremists. however, these are individuals, not entire communities. individuals like al awlaki, faisal shahzad, nidal hasan, do not represent the muslim community. when you assign their violent actions to the entire community, you assign collective blame to a whole group.
I m just right now our community s in a lot of fear and there s a lot of uncertainty. people are calling. people don t know what s going to happen to their kids. people don t know what s going to happen. we believe in our government. we gave them our information. and now people are afraid that i.c.e. agents will knock on their door. no matter what the government is saying, we are all priorities. we ve had d.r.e.a.m.ers be deported from the time the president took place until now. there s no protection for us. astrid silva, good luck to you and to all the d.r.e.a.m.ers out there. a very, very significant moment unfolding right now. we ll watch it very, very closely and see what, if anything, the united states congress does about this. astrid, thanks so much for joining us. thank you. there s other breaking news we re following including hurricane irma strengthening to a monster now. category 5 storm that s the strongest atlantic hurricane in a decade.
