Christmas tree fire destroys Clark Lake house

CLARK LAKE, MI – A Christmas tree fire destroyed a family’s home Wednesday night.
The fire started around 10:50 p.m., Dec. 30 in the 9300 block of Vining Street, Columbia Township Fire Department Chief Scott Cota said.
The family told firefighters that they heard a noise and when they turned around, the Christmas tree was on fire, Cota said. Something likely caught the tree on fire accidently, he said. Christmas trees burn fast and hot, he added.
Cota was the first on scene about nine minutes after the 911 call and at that point there were flames coming out the first and second floor windows of the house.
