pierpont hall, a freshman dorm. new tonight, investigators believe two people were target one person who lives there. students. let s begin tonight with john monahan, and john, police spoke about this incident around 9:15 and provided new information about what happened. that s right. police believe this is the first shelter in place on u-mass campus in history. the reason, the two men inside the dorm one with a gun were worried they might leave the dorm and head out on to campus. reporter: u-mass believes issuing a shelter in place, the students on the amherst campus. we thought we potentially had two people that it just you know, were seen in the residence hall with a hand gun. reporter: the fear is that they would go out on to the massive campus, putting others responding to a 911 call about looking for the suspects, did not find the suspects. reporter: police searched, no suspects were found but they did find a student who had been beaten up. we were able
