Numbers not seen since february. Hospital admissions are up 40% over the last week, deaths up 39% over the same period. These cases are concentrated in communities with low vaccination rates. Over the past seven days, florida and texas have accounted for about one third of new cases. Health officials in texas are among those sounding the alarm about the virus resurgence. They say this outbreak is different from what we have seen before. What you can see is the rise in cases is similar to what we have seen in previous waves, and may even be deeper. And that really shows how contagious the delta variant is. It s spreading much more rapidly among unvaccinated people than the viruses we saw last year. And the houston area, where the covid19 threat level has been raised to code red, officials paint a stark portrait of the situation. We find ourselves retracing our steps, toward the edge of a cliff. Lawmakers and law enforcement were witnesses. We watched the riot unfold hour by hour on january 6th, but today the select committee released new video of the attack during the hearing. Just a warning, some may find this video disturbing. Along with that video came harrowing testimony under officers who were under attack as they fought for hours trying to hold the line against the rioters. We should warn you, some of the testimony included a racist term. What we were subjected to that day was something like from a medieval battle. The rioters attempting to breach the capitol were shouting trump sent us. Pick the right side. We want trump. I could feel myself losing oxygen and recall thinking to myself, this is how i m going to die. I was dragged from the line of officers and into the crowd.
