While. That does it for us this morning. Morning joe starts right now. Good morning and welcome to morning joe. On an extremely busy wednesday, october 10th, were following a number of fastpaced developing stories this morning. Chilling new reporting from the Washington Post and the New York Times on the disappearance of Washington Post columnist jim malkashogi. Well talk to David Ignatius about that and get the very latest. Well have him about the political and Foreign Policy implications of the sudden resignation of u. N. Ambassador nikki haley. Plus, the audience at president trumps rally last night, again, breaks out in a lock her up chant, this time for someone other than hillary clinton. Steve kornacki will be here to make sense of a slew of new polling out this morning. But first, we are just hours away from Hurricane Michael making landfall in the Florida Panhandle, bringing with it life threatening storm surge as high as 13 feet in some areas. there s about 50,000 people who live there and most of the them would have damaged instr t structures to return to. we re talking about at the water line adding about 10 to 15 feet. this is a basketball hoop on top of where the water level is and then we get the wave action. we have a buoy off the coastline, joe, that just went through the eye. it just reported a 31-foot wave. that s like movie type wave. so we get the storm surge and then we get the wave action on top of that. a lot of these homes are built on stilts, but the stilts aren t high enough to protect it from a 10-foot storm surge and then the wave action on top of that. so you ll see homes washed away on the coastal barrier islands there. it s a devastating blow for the

inundation which refer to as storm surge. this is wind-driven water that s going to encroach on the coastal barrier islands and go up the back bay inland areas, which is the most dangerous, very quick aspect of the flooding and what is the primary driver of the evacuation calls that local county judges make. over the next five days, we re going to see copious amounts of rainfall, up to 25 inches possibly in some areas with isolated higher amounts. this is going to be a slow developing major disaster event for the state of texas. we ve all seen the videos time and again of people trapped in their cars. they waited too long. they were trying to get out and they got in their cars at the 11 lkt hour and tried to make their way out. we saw all types of emergency responders having to rescue them. already you can see traffic lining up. what s the plan? texas is so huge.

around 45 miles an hour. now it s going to continue its trek more towards the northeast as we go into the next 24 hours. but this system has had a very long life. it battered the coast of north carolina in the past 24 hours. we did see some damage there. reports are most of that minor to moderate damage along some of those coastal barrier islands. but now this is enough offshore where we re going to see some of that wall of water make its way onshore. this being at tropical storm strength now, we re looking at maybe some light to moderate beach erosion across this region, maybe some power outages. although right now these tropical storm force winds are not as intense as we were looking at across the mid atlantic, just about 24 hours or so ago. so, it is at tropical storm intensity, moving off fairly rapidly towards the northeast now at just about 25 miles an hour. here is kind of the view as we take a look at what s happening.
